Newsletter – April 2013
April may well be the most important month in American history. That’s because of the events that occurred on April 19th. On that day, British troops on a mission to confiscate American arms fired on American militia on Lexington Green and those American minutemen fired back, thus igniting the fuse that exploded into the American Revolution and the War for Independence from Great Britain.
Ralph Waldo Emerson immortalized this historic moment in his poem Concord Hymn. Emerson’s supremely elegant verse forever captured the spirit and the importance of that moment:
By the rude bridge that arched the flood
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here, once, the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard ’round the world!
This month, let us remember those common but courageous farmers who stood their ground against tyranny and who fought so bravely for the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence. Let us especially remember that they believed God Himself had given them the rights for which they fought. It was to Him that they appealed for victory for the vindication of their cause. In short, these truly were patriots who by their actions and by their words said to the world: IN GOD WE TRUST
